Les adjectifs

Context: The book we use is very France focused, ignoring most of the rest of the francophonie. Given that I lived in Québec for a time, I have taken it upon myself to plan a “trip” to a different French-speaking county every chapter. This chapter is Côte d’Ivoire, in West Africa. Given that our Converse is located in South Carolina (30% black), this type of representation is incredibly important, but often overlooked. Most students haven’t given a passing thought to Côte d’Ivoire or how widespread French is in West Africa, so it’s also an important learning opportunity.

Reflection: I won’t say that this lesson makes learning adjectives in French easier because, ultimately, students will need to practice and study in order to fully understand them. When I come into topics like that, I at least try to make the lesson interesting and contextualized, which I believe I accomplished here.
